FAQ

Upside-Down Overflow 2025 is the first edition of Rungta's Game Jam Competition, specifically tailored for students at Rungta College of Engineering and Technology. Scheduled for April 7-8, 2025, this event aims to empower students with skills in game development, artificial intelligence, and collaborative project management while fostering a culture of creativity and innovation within the college community.

Participating in Game Jam 2025 provides a unique opportunity to develop practical skills in game development, explore AI tools, and enhance your portfolio with tangible projects. Winners will receive certificates of excellence, prestigious trophies, exclusive Microsoft swag and gifts, along with the chance to be selected for mentorship opportunities. It's also a great way to collaborate with peers and showcase your creativity within the Rungta College community.

All students from Rungta College of Engineering and Technology are welcome to participate! The event is designed to be inclusive for students from various departments such as Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, and Electronics and Telecommunication. No prior game development experience is required—just bring your creativity, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn and collaborate.

Technical support will be available throughout the event from faculty members and mentors. You can ask questions at the designated help desk in the computer labs or through the official Upside-Down Overflow Discord channel that will be shared during registration. Additionally, there will be roaming mentors available to provide on-the-spot assistance during the development period.

Registration will open on March 30, 2025, and will remain open until April 5, 2025. Students can register either as individuals or as teams through the official Rungta College website or at the designated registration desk in the Computer Science department. Early registration is encouraged as space may be limited.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops for the best experience. However, the college will provide access to computer labs equipped with necessary software for those who need it. If you plan to use college computers, please inform the organizers during registration so appropriate arrangements can be made. Reliable internet access and power outlets will be available throughout the venue.

There will be a team formation session on April 6, 2025, where students can meet potential teammates. Additionally, during registration, you can indicate if you're looking for teammates, and organizers will help facilitate team formations. You can also use the official Upside-Down Overflow Discord channel to connect with fellow participants. While there's no strict limit on team size, we recommend teams of 2-4 students for optimal collaboration and productivity.

The college will host preparatory workshops on game development basics, AI tools for game development, and using GitHub for collaborative projects during the week leading up to the event. Additionally, a resource page with tutorials, game engine documentation, and learning materials will be shared with all registered participants. Faculty members will also be available for consultation sessions prior to the event to help students explore tools and technologies they might want to use.

To maintain fairness, all game development must take place during the official Game Jam period (April 7-8, 2025). You may research, plan, or sketch ideas beforehand, but no actual coding or asset creation should begin until the official start time. For the "FORK & PLAY" track specifically, you may identify and explore potential open-source projects before the event, but any modifications and customizations must be done during the Game Jam period.

You'll need to select one primary track that best represents your project's focus, as your submission will be judged based on the criteria for that specific track. However, in your project documentation, you can mention how your game also addresses themes from other tracks. Projects that successfully integrate elements from multiple tracks may be recognized for their versatility, but for judging purposes, they will be evaluated primarily based on the chosen track's criteria.
